Let me just start off with a bit of an explanation.... I know I haven't posted in quite a while
... well my Masters has been crazy as of late, one of my electives is to literally create an exhibition from scratch, and I am the content manager. Some may not know this, but content is the basic foundation of an exhibition, it literally affects everything else. Therefore lots of stress, tears and pressure, with people breathing down your neck (some you may have even called friends, will they still be at the end of this assignment, who knows??).
However as of last week I was reminded that although cliche - we are all in this together (and yes High School Musical will always come to mind - don't hate, appreciate this cinematic marvel). No one is a miracle worker or made of marble - we might be made of some thicker stuff, but we do reach a breaking point ...
Luckily I am working with some amazing individuals, who I know have my back when things get tough, I get thrown under the bus, or all the blame is put on my shoulders....
As well it also has me thinking of the strength of women, not only as individuals but as a collective.
I unfortunately did not witness first hand the women's march in London a few weeks ago, although I was definitely there in spirit; however this year in particular, not only with the women's march, but also the #MeToo movement/Times Up, centenary of the women's right to vote being passed in England etc... Women across time have joined together to be heard as well as support one another.
There might have been missteps along the way, and there still are - slut shaming, jealousy, women competing against each other in a competition we all end up losing...
So what I say is that we need to stick together... we need to tell each other that we are there if needed, or not even if you are needed - just THERE
I know this isn't the post you expected, but I felt that I needed to dip my toe back into the pool of feminism (I know I sound pretentious but f**k it!) This is that post, I didn't get to write a post about the women's march in particular, even though I would have liked to. However since I did not attend I didn't think I could use my voice to accurately depict this event...
This exhibition project is over in May... still a little more time to stress, I do want to get back into writing blog posts at least every two weeks, who knows even maybe once a week?!! [*Editor's note (me - Hannah) in 2019 - hahah you fool, you got even more busy and did not commit to this*]
For now... see ya later gals!
p.s. The next blog post will be about my other course, in which my team researched amateur female artists from the Slade, for their new summer exhibition, bringing female artists out from the shadows and back into the light...
