introduction

Since this is the first post of my new blog, "the museum gals," I feel it's necessary to begin with the basics of me.

Hello... name's Hannah.

I am soon to turn 23 years old,

and I am studying Museum Studies for my Masters.

I know this might sound like a blind date interview/introduction, but it sometimes is necessary in terms of the basics.

Luckily this introduction isn't pressured with questions of my relationship status or what I really plan to do with my degree.

Like when attending family get togethers, in which EVERY SINGLE family member older than you asks the same questions over and over, resulting in mind numbing reflexed answers:

"What's London like?

How is your program?

Are you dating anyone? Or fallen in love with a British boy yet? What are your plans for the future?

Are you going to come back one day to Canada?"

These questions definitely pose pressures because to be quite frank I have no f***ing clue what I am really doing with my life in a few months time, let alone what I am going to be doing the next day.

And unlike the professional world, there usually isn't a set business card to hand out to family members, this would be convenient, but highly unusual.

These questions as well, especially in my own family, are quite gendered and heterosexual. I don't believe these aforementioned questions would be asked of my male cousins, or even brought up if a cousin was to be "gasp" LGBTQ+. *Preface (nothing is absolutely wrong in my eyes with being apart of the LGBTQ+ community, I hope to be a strong ally, my family is somewhat old-fashioned, but are getting more educated and I wouldn't consider to be homophobic, or at least outright homophobic).*

Which then bridges into the theme of this blog - feminism! However more specifically within the context of my field of study - which helps me in contextualizing theory I learn in class, and also supplementing the field itself.

This first blog post however is not going to delve right into all the juicy debates within the museum field, I will save that for more streamlined posts, in which a single theme/idea will be explored. This post is the calm before the storm, an outlet for my word/brain jumble, a space to share my initial thoughts and feelings, a mode of procrastination from an essay I have due on Tuesday...

During the course of this blog "experiment" if you will, I hope to delve into a variety of discussions and topics, bringing in outside insight from other women in the museum field, maybe even having guest bloggers to write a post *exciting*...

I'll leave this post here for now, and hope whoever reads this looks forward to what is yet to come...

*final note* [I need to come up with a sign off, something catchy, yet short and sweet... suggestions are welcomed of course...] For now though - See ya later gals!
